Learning to Live with Pain... Maria D Reis
They say that time heals all wounds, but that's not true. Many people accept this saying as absolute truth, perhaps because it's more convenient than dealing with deeper issues. Some comforting lies can distract us from the reality of our pain. While they may mask the suffering temporarily, they don’t eliminate it, as the pain remains latent.
Some wounds stay with us for a lifetime. Time doesn't always heal them completely; they continue to hurt under the scar, or what remains of it.
It may seem easier to forget and simply move on, but when you’ve been deeply hurt, forgetting isn’t so simple. We often learn to live with the pain or numb it with high doses of resilience.
I know people who have been deeply hurt since they were very young by those they loved: parents, siblings, spouses, and other family members.
Sometimes I wonder, was it such a big deal to be born? When someone feels out of place or as if they don’t belong anywhere, it’s often because there is always someone who seems intent on fanning the flames of their pain. It becomes evident that no matter how much time passes, the pain doesn't go away.
But it's possible to turn things around, transforming sadness into joy, because it's not the traumas that caused us that define us, but rather how we free ourselves and transform our lives into peace and gratitude.
This is nothing more than how we choose our healing.
Learning to live with pain, finding joy and smiling, is a true art.
To become a master of this art, you first need to be willing to learn!
