You can't save everyone.... Mahmooda Khan

Some people cannot get off the self destructive path they got onto in their early youth. Maturity in years doesn't mean maturity in thought process nor personal development for such people. Many of them are sociopaths with narcissistic tendencies beyond the norm. I say beyond the norm because each of us has these tendencies but theirs are hidden so well under the guise of a well put together act for the unattached.

It's the people closest to that person who bear the brunt of their downward spiral. Sometimes enabling them hoping that they do not despair to the point of self harm when they are in trouble or worse, resort to crime or become a victim of their own chaotic lifestyle.

The reality is even when this person pulls out of danger, it's a matter of time before the cycle repeats because they do not have any sense of accountability nor responsibility. In fact, in their opinion, their situation is always a result of someone else's actions.

These people often do not blink an eye at biting off the very hand that feeds them if it will advance their personal gratification even momentarily.

Worse, many of these people are not always drug addicts - they are addicted to victimhood, or to the high they get over watching you struggle to help them. You get caught up in a tornado of trying to uplift and assist. Yet, the storm itself is capable of tearing you apart.

It's not easy to escape. Open your eyes, and tell them "I see you". Articulate it and watch the links fall away one at a time. Save yourself first!
