Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, esteemed fellow academics, I would like to point out my thoughts on "Peace and Freedom". to express my thoughtfulness above historical survival of Romany people that is, in today's world, known by great victims and sufferings for the freedom which is the core Romany collective spirit and moral. These features made Romany people historical in the Hegelian meaning of the word, and in my understanding of humans fate – tragic.
We live in the time in which permanent changes are inevitable and the governing tradition. The rhythm of these changes becomes faster in developing energies of our civilization. Temporal and continual relation between old and new, past and present, conservative and modern, revolutionary and contra revolutionary becomes not only relative but also diffusional. For that reason it is very difficult to name the essential traditions of a society and culture and to mark their essence and unity by any common term. It is even more difficult to preserve the original meaning and values of the tradition among all these radical transformations of modern world.
Ever presented question – who are we and we do we go? Is also fronted to our generation but with certain modern quotations – how to defend man's integrity and free development of human character from the terrifying manipulations, controls and miseries over a man that of which are consisted political, economic, and technical powers of the world.
On this question cannot answer modern, pragmatic, specialized science. This essential question mostly does not concern the majority of the modern writers. But, if we do care about humanistic role in our civilization “classical speculations” about a man and the purpose of his existence must be creatively actualized. The answer on this question today gives political ideology which is the main responsible for many disasters, such as wars and revolutions, but also scientifically mischiefs and technical development of twenty century. Today every speculation about the peace, freedom, man's destiny, the future of people and mankind also contains consideration about the history and pre-history of the present, considering the identity of every single being, choice and valuable grounding of the main traditions in culture.
We are not conscious how much and in what ways is alerted world we live in. he speedily transforms ant tomorrow won't be what is today. And how will one small people that by decades was on the life's subway accept these changes and direct rationally his way and the rhythm of changes?
The question of Romanies is democratic question. There is no a single human right that doesn't stands out of life's interests of Romany people. Romany question is the question of liberation and affirmation of national identity. The question of Romanies is civilizational question.
It is perhaps the most important question on the ground of Europe. And the question is – how to develop human and national potentials, how to raise the quality of life, and how to reform education?
Twenty first century has planted on the ground of the whole world heavy delusions and difficult misunderstandings among people. I assort myself among those who believe and so is the literature invited to work on overcoming of present delusions and misunderstandings by her humanistic spirit. But for that role we need peace, liberty, knowledge and conscious. We have, at first place to truly know each other, to consider and name our identity today, defend and affirm existential values of our collective being into his historical existence.
In searching for the purpose of our existence it is really essential to see in the history – a man, in the national destiny – the destiny of a man, in a community- a single person, behind national and social ideologies – personal motives for “creating history”, behind flags, arms and patriotic words – a man's face, the beat of his heart, and the shape of his soul.
And we, Romany, that doesn't belong to the nations of world, whose heads are bent to the dust, will know that this dust is more sacred than the blocks from which the powerful raise their towers. This dust is fertile with the life, beauty and dignity. We will praise the God because he left to us to spend centuries of despair in silence, to stand provocations of insolent and the cargo of the powerful. We will praise the God because in all our distresses although our heart trembled with fear and anxiousness we never blindly believed in the salvation that machinery will bring, but we remained faithful to the God and to the truth of a human soul. We still nurse the hope that we will, when the power ashame to grab the throne and when she becomes ready to make the room for the love, when breaks the morning in which will be erased the traces left by the nation who stooped the mankind, be invited to clear our dishes with the holly water, the water for recovering the consciousness, to clean the humans history again and to bless with fertility the stooped dust of centuries.
I have to remind you that it is a high time for renewing closely relation of friendship which is the only natural relation among nations. There should be made lively traffic between the two hearts. We all should be parts of unique nervous system and be able to feel the deepest necessities of a mankind. We should not live in fear from each other, we should not be armed, should not keep each other under the hand of power, we should not be led with personal interests. We should change our ideas and ideals, give and receive the gifts of the divine love. We must not allow that differences in language and culture prevent us from loving each other. No racial proud and insolence because of superiority – spiritual or physical – should spoil our relations. We should allow that under the light of unified hearts grow new leaves and new flowers of literature, to allow that people from different countries and with different histories narrate that what makes the highest stadium of unity and the deepest relationship of love.
Political civilization that is present on the ground of the Southeastern Europe, which remind me on some wild, useless bur evil plant that spreads quickly, is based on turning out. She tends to keep small people under her power or to destroy them. She is cannibalistic in her tendencies and feeds with the essential supply of other people's life she is trying to swallow all their future. She is always in fear that some other people would be more respected so she declares them dangerous and than tries to erase all the symptoms of greatness above her boundaries. She keeps down that people which is weaker than she so that they remain weak forever. She betrays the confidence unshamefully, spreads networks of lies and in hers temple nurses the idols of greediness on which she is proud. She also boasts with the expensive god's services which she calls patriotism.
A man can with a certainty deny that this state will last forever because in the world does exist moral law to which are submitted not only individuals but also organized communities. You can't in the name of your nation forever step across those laws and as an individual enjoy their good side ! This public ruining of ethical ideals slowly affects every member of a society, gradually and invisibly weaken a man using cynical dis confidence toward everything that is sacred and worth of respect in a human nature, and that is the first sign of oldness.
